Zone sports
The school belongs to the South West Zone and this gives us opportunities to extend our elite athletes. Children can compete in Swimming, Cross Country, Winter Sports Tournament and Athletics against other Christchurch schools.

If a child has an interest in additional sports they can also compete in these as an individual e.g. Triathlon, Gymnastics.

School programme
Winter Sports Programme: 
Due to poor weather conditions and lack of game time for inter-school sports, for the last two years we have created an individual Winter sports programme. This has included such activities as  Wall Climbing, Ice Skating, Ten Pin Bowling and Archery to allow our children to participate in sports every week.

Two Yearly Cycle:
Opportunities that arise through outside organisations e.g. Jump Rope for Heart, First Aid, Life Saving are also incorporated into the school programme. Additional sports have included Orienteering, Golf, Mountain Biking, Kayaking and Yachting.

Swimming
The Governors Bay Community Pool is used for swimming instruction during the summer terms. Each class will swim every day, weather permitting. For the last two years the junior classes (years 0-3) have also enjoyed swimming lessons for two weeks at the beginning of Term 2 as part of the aquatic programme at Pioneer swimming pool.

Visiting specialists
We sometimes take advantage of visiting sports coaches who are able to offer highly skilled tuition in various sporting codes.
