Governors Bay School is a decile 10 state school, situated in the beautiful Lyttelton Harbour Basin. Just 15 minutes from Christchurch we look from our playground to the wider playground of the bush-clad Port Hills and the sparkling waters of the harbour. This superb location means our school has access to walking tracks and water activities right on its doorstep.
As a full primary school we cater for boys and girls in years 0-8 (ages 5-13) and
have a roll of about 80 students.
The school has four composite classrooms, with teachers who are greatly skilled in teaching mixed age groups. The teachers offer a personalised approach to each individual child ensuring they have appropriate learning challenges. Our class sizes enable each child’s particular interests to be explored within the curriculum.
We pride ourselves on our family atmosphere which reflects the special
community that we live in. We have a strong partnership with our school parents who are welcomed into the classroom to help with activities.
Our junior students are supported in their early years through a buddy system. Our senior students in
years 7-8 all take on leadership roles as a flow on from this buddy system.
At Governors Bay School our children are ... Living to Learn and
Learning to Live, Me Ora Ki Te Ako, Me Ako Ki Te Ora. |
