Location

Governors Bay School is located in the heart of Governors Bay - 10km from Lyttelton and 15km from Christchurch City centre. We are part of a strong, supportive, local community. We are lucky to have large flat grounds, two dedicated outdoor play-gyms and wonderful views!

We have a very popular shaded sandpit and have recently built our own class vegetable patches, complete with scarecrow. The natural slope in our grounds makes a wonderful water-slide in the summer!

Children are welcome to bring scooters and skate-boards to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for use during the morning tea and lunchtime breaks. Please ensure these are clearly labelled with their name.

We utilise the local environment with water-based activities for the older students - our kayaking and sailing days are very popular. We also use the foreshore for field trips with the younger students and hold our annual duathalon along the Governors Bay foreshore track.

The Board of Trustees encourages families to use the school grounds for play and recreation and make them available from 4pm each day and on weekends. We ask our community to value and respect this open access.
