Reporting to
parents
Every year we
provide a number of formal opportunities for parents to meet with
teachers to discuss their child(ren)'s progress:
In March we hold “Meet the Teacher” evenings for parents of children in
years 0-5. These evenings give parents the opportunity to learn about the class programme for the year and the ways in which they can support their child(ren). For Kereru class
(years 6-8) the students, their parents and the teacher participate in an individual goal-setting meeting.
For Piwakawaka (years 4-5) students, the parents and teacher set goals
to establish for the second half of the year.
Mid year reports are issued in June, along with a record book containing samples of school work. Parents have the opportunity to meet teachers individually to discuss their child(ren)’s progress. For Kereru class, these are again a meeting for the student, parents and teacher to review the goals set at the start of the year and establish new goals for the second half of the year.
In December end of year school reports are issued together with the record book containing updated examples of school work.
At the start of each term class newsletters are issued which provide more detailed information on the term’s activities and focus topics.
Governors Bay School staff are happy to meet with parents during the school term, with the best time generally being at the end of the school day. Parents value this ability to communicate with teachers informally, enabling them to keep up to date with their child(ren)’s activities and progress in the classroom.
