Principal's Welcome
Kia ora and welcome to Governors Bay School – Te Kura ō Ōhinetahi.
Our school vision:
To be a community which is integrated with the community and develops confident and
courageous learners who are embracing of change.
I view my role as the Principal as an extremely privileged one, in being able to lead the
school on the journey to realise this vision.
Every teacher at our school aspires to inspirational teaching and learning through
creativity and diversity; the shared, collaborative culture amongst staff ensures we work
together as a team to create the very best learning and playing environment for all our
students from Year 1 to Year 8.
Technology has created a rapidly changing world and technology itself is changing
rapidly and continuously. At school we are now preparing students for a future world
they do not yet know. The Wall Street Journal talks about today’s students eventually
"having jobs that don’t yet exist, using technologies that haven’t yet been invented".
To cope with this, students must learn not just to master the technology, but also to be
adaptable and capable of learning new skills, processes and applications. They need to
be flexible and creative in their thinking. They need to use what they have already learned
to construct new understandings and then relate those understandings to future situations.
They need to have a strong sense of inquiry and a willingness to be lifelong learners.
Through the development of our broad curriculum, we reflect our commitment as a school
to ensure every student is prepared through experiencing success in the core academic
areas as well in the Arts, Physical Education, Sports and Culture. Equally importantly our
students are strongly supported to develop friendships, to interact socially with confidence
and to develop citizenship through the modelling and focus on our core values of:
-
Wellbeing/ Hauora
-
Connections
-
Integrity
-
Courage
-
Diversity
-
Respect
We strive to be an inclusive community and warmly welcome parents and whanau to share their child’s ‘learning journey’.
Developing a strong sense of whanau, community, and belonging is at the centre of our focus on growing partnership.
The school is well governed by a united, future focussed and supportive Board of Trustees who represent our community
You are warmly encouraged to come in and visit our school and talk with me about learning and life at school. Please phone and make an appointment if you would like a look around the school. I always enjoy an opportunity to share our great school whenever I can!
Naku noa ra,
Kind regards,
Judy Cooke
